That was like the worst example you could have used. We have like 3 trailers for it and a crap load of screenshots from that movie, that's people aren't complaining that much anymore and also, that movie was suppose to come two Fridays ago and was postponed earlier this year (not even 6 months ago). So I'm going to have to call BS on the whole "I knew that for 2 years). I still get the point though.

No one is asking for the game to come out now, they I mean just want something about, info, concept art, just something. Granted, I don't mind waiting, its just that if they are as far as we think/hope there are a couple of things that should have come out already, concept art at the very least (which is all I'm asking for).

Game companies are getting smarter, and aren't going to turn on the hype machine until one year before release. That keeps the momentum going better, so the press isn't bored of covering your game when it finally comes out. You figure out what an estimated release date would be from that.

Just to remind people, I can understand stuff not being out on gw2. I was just speculating that there had been a clear statement by gaile about gw2 in 2008. None of what was said by her has really come to fruition (with the exception of pushing back the beta, anet gave a press release on that).

Then again, considering that it IS anet, they may something on Dec 31, 2008 on gw2. Wouldn't that be an ass kicker?

Waste of energy? We're the community, they can communicate directly to us. Literally, all they would need to do is send Regina on a forum and upload a couple of concept art pics. That's it. And if you really think that there wasn't an enormous outcry by devoted HP fans when the movie got pushed back 6 months...well, you're wrong. I know this because I got an earful from my girlfriend when it happened. Furthermore, it's not like HP fans don't know what's going to happen in the next movie, they've already read the books absurd numbers of times each. There's no real suspense there to hold people on, whereas we know jack squat about this game that is supposed to represent ANet fixing all that is wrong with the game we're currently playing. The incongruity of the HP movie example with the GW2 situation is astounding.

There, 5 minutes, post done. Reeeeal big energy drain there. >_>

Who here is saying that they need to release their concept art to a few leet gamebois in a dark ally where no one else can, or will, ever see it? Of course they will make a big splash in the media a few months before the game is released. But it's been my experience with other games (like SG:Worlds and ST:Online - the other two MMO's I'm excited about) that they release several pieces of concept art without any media support but the gallery on the main website, seemingly as soon as it gets finished, years before the actual release to excite fans, new or old. And more importantly giving them a lot of free word of mouth advertising from those excited fans posting in other locations. Leet gamebois usually know other leet gamebois willing to buy fun games, especially if they are recommended.

It's in their best interest to maintain and develop a devoted following of fans as easily and cheaply as possible. Releasing a handful of concept art is not catering to a bunch of fanbois drooling at the mouth for information to pick over and critique, it's an incredibly cheap and easy way to invigorate an eager fanbase that would probably tell a lot of their friends about this neat new game coming out now that they have something to show them. I know I personally am waiting for some concept art to show to the other gaming communities I hang out at.

No one is asking for 100 screenshots and/or a five minute ingame trailer and/or a full beta next Thursday. The only thing I've seen people ever really ask for is concept art that, as I said previously, they should be hip deep in by now anyway. All it would take is a small gallery of probably 15 art pieces and a simple paragraph on their website. And besides that, I think this topic is more in response to what Gaile, as an official community manager, said would happen this year that hasn't (Not that I'm expecting her to have been psychic and know exactly when they were going to release anything).

It has been surprisingly silent about Guild Wars 2. I think it is overdue to give us an update about the state of the game and for example show us a movie of the already finished parts.

May be they have a different strategy of communication (see how the CR/M changed and the whole communication with the community through fansites)? Think big bang to attract more people out of the WoW magnet (and maybe other MMOs like SG:Worlds, ST:Online, DC universe, Spellborn, etc.) instead of lots of small explosions. I know that it may be unnerving to some, but I guess they're also making a bet about the success of their method (unless they have nothing to show at all, which is not what I believe). So I wonder whether it's another of these "hot fansite topics" that are only here to fuel discussions, diatribes, flame, trolls, rather than say something meaningful about the GW community.

Yeah that pcgamer cover over a year ago wasn't hype.......
And gwen, which focus was on the HoM, the biggest ingame advertizement for gw2, seconded by the ending cinema. Sorry people want more information, story points, screenshots, ect. Hell after see the Mox quests, I was thinking new quests every monthly may have been possible. Possible actually give more story to GWEN (and it freaking needs it).

The simple fact of the matter is, we are immpatient.

People were whinning on these boards non-stop about the title update before it happened. Everybody was demanding a.net spill all the beans and calling them failures for not informing the "community." This was occuring literally 2 weeks before the update.

If the "community" can't wait 2 weeks to find out all the details about an update, is anybody really surprised that so many people can't wait a few years for all the details about a brand new game?

People are impatient but that doesn't make the media black-out normal. I think GW2 devs are trying to build hype, but you're supposed to do that only if your other titles are revered already, which the GW series is not. If it was everyone would be saying OMG OMG OMG GW2 is going to rule and not need much update. They're not because GW1 is a very mixed-bag and it's not appropriate to act like the sequel will be the second coming of Jesus and the community should just sod off and wait.

Well they can, but I think it's not the best marketing plan in their situation.

Oh definitely. I honestly think that this is the most effective marketing strategy for them to use in their already established fanbase. They're building up a lot of hype and mileage without having to do literally anything, and they aren't making any promises or even implications that might backfire sometime down the road. I was just saying it wasn't catering to a bunch of salivating fan-persons if they were to do something that most other companies usually do.

While I understand they may not be able to give much info out on GW2, I would like atleast some communication from Regina. It seems like they've been exceptionally quiet on all accounts. Gaile used to post here a lot, and even Regina did in the beginning. I understand they're working diligently, but I imagine anyone could spare 10 minutes in their day.

It's not that they're working diligently, it's because they are got nothing to show-off in their work. They're afraid once they announce the info. ppl will be like....."wow this sucks, i aint buying it". Anet ran out of gas little after Factions. Lots people are going back/to WoW since you can do so much more there. (and the fact that the game has already failed to become a good one)

People are silent because there are things they wish not to be discovered, in this case, the horrible condition GW2 is in.

Part of me wants to call you a pessimist, but Anet is getting to the point where the silence is deafening. I also have to agree with you in that something went wrong after Factions.

The problem also is that we like GW.
But are bored out of our minds PLAYING it.

If you have a game that was meant to be refreshed every few months by a new chapter - surely one can not expect to keep the people interested with probably the weakest addition to the game for more then that time.
Unless their plan is for the players to completely forget about GW and once GW2 is released they hope to charm everyone again by starting at zero. But that seems a waste of the money that the people currently liking the game are willing to throw at them.

Agreed. Part of GW's charm was the new campaign every 6 months concept. It assured players there would always be something new to explore after they had completed the entirety of a campaign. PvE-wise that is. I totally loved that concept.

Though Anet has perfectly explained why that model has been shot down, and afterwards I fully agree with it, the lack of content is really biting GW in the butt. Anets idea of 'putting GW down if you are bored with it, re-install it with a new interesting update', isn't working for the players anymore. Putting the game down to wait for a new interesting update would be viable if you knew every 6 months a new campaign was launched. Putting the game down, hoping you can continue in GW2 for over 2 years...this is not how you create players dedicated to your franchise.

The few updates released the past few months were not very satisfiable either. Experienced players could complete the MOX quests in a few hours. The title rebalance didn't add any 'new' content either. All in all, GW hasn't had any real content update since GW:EN, which wasn't even a full campaign to start with. Sure, increased content has been added with grinding titles, but what fun is there to find in that after so many years?

Logically, people are screaming for some information about GW2. They are dieing to hear they can keep playing their precious gaming franchise. Every new tidbit of information would acknowledge their faith in ANet for providing a fun gaming experience.

I know I'm at the point of screaming, it would be a shame if Anet/GW would just be slowly forgotten by their playerbase. We have to keep in mind those players enabled GW to become that very successful and profitable project between all those MMO's nowadays.

You remember how we got Gaile Gray chatlogs every other week or so, and there used to be a "Scribe" magazine, keeping us all informed of upcoming stuff. And now it's dead silence. And that is what makes us impatient. We need news! It feels like we've been left on our own.
